Everyone loves the holidays cause there are decorations everywhere. There are parties to go to and gifts to give. However, it can be a very expensive time of the year. Many people go over their budget when it comes to holiday spending. It doesn’t have to be that way. Here are some tips to not overspend over the holidays.
Put money aside all year long. You may want to start saving for Christmas at the beginning of the year. Even an extra twenty dollars a month will add up over twelve months so you may have enough money to buy some of those extra gifts you wanted to.
Don’t be afraid to talk to others about gift-giving. There are just too many people who you want to show your appreciation for and the amount of gifts that you want to go give can add up. If you want to stick to your budget, don’t be afraid to talk to some of your friends and relatives. Maybe you can do a secret Santa or just skip the gifts instead to help you stay on budget. Your family and friends will understand because the holidays are not about giving gifts, its about spending quality time with the people you love the most.
You may want to make some gifts instead. Homemade gifts can be a great way to show people that you care, without costing you a lot of money. If you are good with photos, work with a few pictures, frame them, and give them as gifts. If you are crafty, you may want to make ornaments. These simple gifts can often mean more than expensive, store bought ones.
Ask people to bring a dish to your holiday party. You are surrounded by your friends and family but paying for all the food can become costly. You can ask people to pitch in. We all have that relative that makes the best desserts. This way you are spending less money. You will also be spending less time in the kitchen and you will be able to spend more time actually being a part of the party.
If you don’t want to overspend, you may want to put aside money for Christmas all year long. This will give you the budget for extras when the holidays come. You shouldn’t be afraid to talk to your family and friends. You don’t have to get gifts for everyone. They might be glad that you decided not to swap gifts but they were afraid to bring it up!
